Tommy & Vivian 2016: Our Wedding Photo Album. Shot in Clackamas, Oregon by Portland wedding photographer team Wild Fox Photography.
The first time I met Tommy and Vivian was at the gorgeous Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Woodburn, Oregon. Gorgeous tulips of every color streamed across the fields in perfect rows. A full size pink tractor stood perfectly placed in the middle of the flowers, as if it had been waiting for the bride-to-be.
"Have you ever been to a Chinese wedding?"
I certainly hadn't, but I would soon learn the real purpose of our photo shoot at the tulip farm. Traditional Chinese weddings are steeped in beautiful traditions that date back thousands of years, incorporating important elements of a marriage like family, unity, and ones ancestors. One of the more modern traditions, however, was that of the portrait session.
In some ways, the portrait session is similar to an engagement session. The photos consist of both the bride and groom together, in love, and often in a beautiful natural setting. The photos are typically posed in a classic manner, as if the couple were dancing and only paused briefly to look towards the photographer.
Once a collection of photos are taken, the bride and groom will select the best one to be printed onto a large canvas for their wedding day. The canvas is then placed towards the entrance of their wedding for all of the guests to see upon arrival.
"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage." - Lao Tsu
Tommy and Vivian are that couple every photographer wants to work with. They are light hearted, sweet, and they know how to have fun. They don't take things too seriously, and you can practically watch them fall in love all over again in front of the camera.
They mention they'll be having a second wedding in Kansas so that other parts of their family can help celebrate. My husband is from Kansas too, so I can relate. Despite having so much on their plate already, they are relaxed and happy just to be together.
As I look around Wooden Shoe, I can't help but notice how serene it is. There are plenty of people walking through, enjoying time with their families, and yet it feels so quiet. There are mountains off in the distance and a beautiful vineyard on the lower part of the property. We soon find out that there is a stunning 2.5 acre garden near the entrance to the farm. The whole place is breathtaking, and I silently vow to come back for our wedding re-creation shoot.
The friendship between these lovely ladies is undeniable. They laughed, they played, and in turn the vibe of the big day was that of relaxation and family time.
