Having a coastal Oregon wedding is a beautiful way to incorporate the natural beauty of the beach into your memories and wedding photos. The Oregon coast is known for its colorful tidal pools and quiet beaches. Sites like Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach and Ecola State Park near Seaside make for beautiful wedding venues on the coast. Check out this coastal Oregon wedding guide for tips on beach theme wedding decorations, bouquets, hair styles, and photography.
The beaches on the Oregon coast are by far the best wedding venue for your big day. There are plenty of hotels and lodges for guests to stay in, and a number of great bakeries and florists to cover the arrangements. If you are from outside of Oregon and thinking about planning your wedding here, know that July and August are the best months to hold an outdoor wedding on the beach. Spring and fall can be extremely windy and on the cool side with frequent rains. Winter is not suitable for an outdoor wedding on the Oregon coast.
The next step to planning your coastal Oregon wedding is to determine which beach you would like the ceremony and possibly the reception to be held. It is a good idea to choose 3-5 beaches that you are interested in, and then go visit them to determine which makes the final cut. Your wedding planner can help to line up permits, lodging, and other arrangements to reserve the venue.
Seaside in the far north is a great beach to hold your wedding if you'd like to be close to a medium sized town with hotels, restaurants, and entertainment available. If you are looking for incredible views, Ecola State Park, Haystack Rock, and Cape Falcon can't be beat. Some of the best sandy beaches include Seaside, Florence, Manzanita, Pacific City, Cannon Beach, and Nehalem.
If you are in southern Oregon, Gold Beach is very scenic with plenty of huge boulders out to sea making for very unique sunsets. The beautiful Rogue River pours into the ocean here as well. Florence and Winchester Bay are exceptionally sandy and feature beautiful sand dunes throughout the area.
Flowers are such an important part of weddings. They bring together the look of the bride's dress and veil, give the guest tables brightness and life, and create a gorgeous backdrop for the altar. Fresh petals create a beautiful walkway for the bride to follow as the groom watches her walk up the aisle for the first time.
You are the finest, loveliest, tenderest, and most beautiful person I have ever known and even that is an understatement. ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald
Selecting the right bouquet for your wedding day is an important part of the planning stage. The bride and her wedding planner should consider the color of the bridesmaid dresses, the bride's favorite colors, and the natural landscape if the wedding ceremony will be held outdoors.
Pale pink and white flowers often complement the sand in a beach wedding without detracting from the scenery. Shades of blue and lavender will bring out the colors of the ocean, and add contrast to the natural white light on an open beach. As a wedding photographer, a pop of color in the midst of so much light adds a beautiful touch to a couples beach wedding photos.
As the preparations for your wedding unfold, ask your wedding planner to contact florists to get specific photos of the bouquets they offer. Some florists may be able to incorporate coastal elements into your beach wedding bouquet such as small starfish, shells, or pearls.
